About

William Cooper (1920 -1993) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He received his bachelors and master from Philadelphia Musical Academy, where he studied under Stefan Wolpe and Julius Hijman. He later studied with Harold Friedell at the Union Theological Seminary School of Sacred Music. He taught at Bennet College and in the public schools of New York.  Also, he served as Minister of Music at St. Philip’s Church and St. Martin’s Episcopal Church. Cooper composed more that 300 work including cantatas, motets, oratorios, earning him the ‘Bishop’s Cross’ for extraordinary ministry of music for the enrichment of liturgy.
