1900 - 1953

About

Werger Jaëgerhuber (1900-1953) was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and was the son of Anton Jaëgerhuber, a naturalized American citizen of German origin and Anna Maria Tippenhauer, a member of a mulatto Haitian family. Jaëgerhuber studied composition in Germany. Returning to his native Haiti, he traveled the country collecting folk melodies, especially those used in Vodou ceremonies. He quoted these melodies in his many operas, masses, and chamber music works.
