Timothy Askew (b. 1961) received his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Morehouse and his master’s degree from Yale. Dr. Askew was an NCEA Doctoral Fellow at the University of South Florida. Pursuing an interdisciplinary degree in American Studies and focusing on American Literature and American Music, he received his Ph.D. Degree at Emory University and had the distinction of being the first Ph.D. Marshal at the University. Dr. Askew is a Full Professor of English and Humanities and an Aldridge/McMillan Scholar at Clark Atlanta University where he has taught since 1985. He is the Founding President of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society at Clark Atlanta University and is a Sustaining Member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dr. Askew is a National Endowment for the Humanities Scholar as well as a recognizedAldridge/McMillan Scholar at Clark Atlanta University for overall excellence in teaching, research, and service. He is the author of Cultural Hegemony and African American Patriotism: An Analysis of the Song, “Lift Every Voice and Sing” (Linus Books).
