Sylvia Durant (b. 1936) is a Creative Writing Consultant, Author and the composer of the musical composition Martin Luther King. Ms. Durant has a background in Public Relation and PBS radio reporting. She has interviewed many celebrities such as Aretha Franklin and many others.

Ms. Durant’s long life experiences deepened her influence to write words literally and musically that touch hearts with precious wisdom and true understanding.

Unlike many composers Ms. Durant musical adventure started in a very unusual social setting in the late 1940’s, she went to a small conservatory of music in Washington D.C. her home town. She was introduced to classical music by the late great Leonard Bernstein’s special program for public school students, later she played the mellophone in the high school band and marched in President. Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Inaugural Parade.

Ms. Durant looks foreword to her Martin Luther King composition always being acknowledged for its musical and historical deliberation. Martin Luther King Jr. will remain in the forefront of American History, this score is a tribute to his love and inspiration for all humanity, he was truly a great man, she is honored to make a contribution to his legacy.

She says, with a distinct musical background this Martin Luther King composition is a gift from Almighty God. She is also grateful to be in the company of such very prestigious composers at the young age of 85. I want to thank Dr.Toppin of the African Diaspora Music Project for her kindness. Ms.Durant presently lives in Michigan with a mission to always love.
