Jules Bledsoe

Julius “Jules” Bledsoe was a highly sought after baritone of the early twentieth century, most known for popularizing “Ol’ Man River” from Showboat. Along with being a performer, Bledsoe also composed. The Concertgebouw Orchestra of Amsterdam performed his African Suite, a set of four songs for voice and orchestra. He composed multiple spirituals and patriotic songs, and composed an opera titled Bondage in 1939, based upon Harriet Beecher Stowe’s novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin.
