Aurelia Norris ​Young (1915-2010) was a musician, composer, writer, educator, and social activist from Knottsville, Kentucky. Through studying piano, violin, music theory, organ, and French horn, Young graduated from Wilberforce University in 1937 and Indiana University in 1955. Married to Jack Harvey Young Sr. (1908-1976) in 1938, both worked along with the Freedom Riders and participated in the first sit-in in Jackson, Mississippi. Additionally, Young was a music professor at Jackson State College (now Jackson State University) and established a Bachelor of Music Education degree program that is still being offered today.
